2005 transnational DIY Art and Media Congress : JULY 14-28 2005
This will be the second annual congress taking place in Varna. After assessing the success of the first congress we found it to be too short and too small and not enough interaction between the public/participants and the performer/coordinators. So we changed our approach for 2005.
The Subject of the congress is to:
1. familiarize youth with modern methods of production and promotion of multimedia art, as well as well as practical experience of collective organization and work practices.
2. help establish a art and media center in varna, using the center as a training space to establish other centers in other areas of the world
3. We hope to share with each other our skills in hopes of establishing an empowering creative transnational netwerk.
4. to present the culture of the western world- i.e. facets of the culture not well transmitted by the mass media. And to help people realize critical thinking skills needed to have a voice in modern societies. presentation of the culture of the western world- i.e. facets of the culture not well transmitted by the mass media
The congress is organization of artists, musicians, dance performers, film makers, cirkus performers, classic artists, workshop facilitators and writers from France, united states, Germany, United Kingdom, Romania, Bulgaria, Poland and Hungary. This organization has been created with the goal of making multimedia shows where the arts are fused together to create a multi-sensual experience. We want this congress to express its message through many different medias (music, dance, circus, street theater, films, visuals, ect.). The show will be autonomous and will be able to last a whole night or just a few hours. Structurally, the show will be adaptable to any kind of environment, weather, and welcoming. Our aim is to bring this concept to as many people as possible. All performers are members of the organization and are participating for free in this project of cultural trade through art and other social and educational activities. We all share our talents and artistic and technical skills at workshops where we teach the subject we are most comfortable with (i.e. Basic midi, juggling, puppet making, silk screening, etc.). Our goal is to perform to the largest crowd possible, and to make it a truly memorable interactive and multimedia show. We think that one of the most important gifts from our collective will be to bring art, culture, and information from Countries and cultures that ordinarily would not reach eastern Europe. All events we are planning will be completely free.
Workshops
The workshops will take place in english, German, and french respectively and will be simutaniously translated. Workshops will be offered in differant languages on different days depending on the need.
The performances will be an extension of the workshops in that, for example, in the basic midi workshop participants will be invited onstage during the electronic music performances to see practical implimentation of the information and skills discussed in the workshop.
These workshops will take place daily from the first day of the congress until the last Designed to facilitate meeting people, they are open to everyone, and will allow people to discover and trade knowledge without any commercial dimension. Through the Workshops, the show Will facilitate a richer cultural exchange. The Goal is to make a road of alternative culture discovery, so other people Can use this network of contacts again for other exchanges. Promissing students will be offered an opportunity to co-facilitate a werkshop at the congress the following year.
Planning meetings are to take place every month leading up to the congress and the minutes are to be posted to the website for further inter group discusions. Every participating collective is encouraged to post minutes and be involved in the planning. New collectives are invited to join the project up to 3 months before the congress when implimentation of the plan begins. Primary meetings will take place in Berkeley California ; Berlin, germany ; varna-sofia, bulgaria ; gdansk , poland ; barcelona , spain ; minsk, belorussia ; craiova, rumania; marseille, france
