On July 29th 2006 3000-4000 people in the Swiss capital Berne demonstrated against the war in Lebanon. |

Mainstream press sources say about 3000 to 4000 people turned
out today (29. July 2006) in the Swiss capital Berne to protest
against the war in Lebanon. The demonstrators assembled at
14:00 local time near the main railway station, then staged a
protest march through the old town which ended on the
Bundesplatz square in front of the parliament building.
There, speeches including speeches by Soha Bechara, an ex
freedom-fighter who was incarcerated in Israel for ten years,
Joe Lang, a green MP, and Mohamed al Husseini from the
local lebanese cultural association where given.
The organisers, a wide range of organisations, including the
Group for a Switzerland Without Army, the Green Party,
several palestinian, arab and muslim groups as well as
christian religious and socialist groups had called for a
peaceful demonstration and urged the participants to not
allow any antisemitic, rassist, religious or anti-religious
banners or actions.
With very few exceptions, this call was heeded. The protest
was very colourful and fairly chaotic but completely peaceful.
Very few police were in place and they generally remained in
the background. The protesters were very diverse and
represented all walks of life. No incidents with far right
provocateurs, radical islamists or counter-protesters were
observed, the protesters battled with the scorching summer
heat though – temperatures were over 30°C and the humidity
was fairly elevated.
Banners from the protesters and the speechers denounced the
disproportionate violence excerted by the Israeli army, both in
Lebanon and in Gaza - in particular the criminal slaughtering of
innocent civilians, and the systematic destruction of civilian
infrastructures. They called for an immeadiate cease-fire, the
pullback of Israel from all occupied territories the release of
tousands of palestinian prisoners and called for a fair peace
between Israel and its arab neighbours.
The protestors also staunchly critizised the hypocritical position
of the Swiss government which hesitates to call the conflict a
war and which continues to treat weapons with the Israeli state.
They support the position of the social-democratic Swiss foreign
minister Micheline Calmy-Rey which had critized Israel for its
policies.
Also critizied were the United States which were blamed for their
ever more dangerous and imperialistic policies. Some of the
chanted slogans were indeed the same as the ones that were
chanted in the run-up to the Iraq war: “a ceux qui veulent dominer le monde, le monde repond: résistance” ( to those who want to dominate the world, the world responds: resistance!). |

Demonstrierende fordern in Bern Gewaltende im Nahen Osten
BERN - Mehrere tausend Personen haben in Bern den bewaffneten Konflikt zwischen Israel und der Hisbollah verurteilt und ein sofortiges Ende aller kriegerischen Handlungen gefordert. Die Demonstration verlief friedlich.
Der Demonstrationszug bewegte sich von der Schützenmatte vor der Reithalle via Kornhausplatz zum Bundesplatz, wo sich mehrere Rednerinnen und Redner zum Konflikt äusserten. Die Polizei schätzte die Zahl der Demonstrierenden auf 3000, die Organisatoren sprachen von 4000 Personen.
Es gehe darum, Solidarität mit der leidenden Zivilbevölkerung in Libanon, im Gaza-Streifen und in Israel zu zeigen, sagte Louise Schneider von der Gruppe Schweiz ohne Armee (GSoA), der Hauptinitiantin der Demonstration. Rund 30 weitere Organisationen hatten sich angeschlossen.
Viel Kritik musste der Bundesrat wegen seiner zögerlichen Haltung einstecken. Die Demonstrierenden verlangten vehement, die militärische Zusammenarbeit mit Israel sei aufzugeben. Insbesondere sei auf den Kauf von Rüstungsgütern in der Höhe von 150 Millionen Franken aus Israel zu verzichten.
Lob erhielt von der Landesregierung einzig Aussenministerin Micheline Calmy-Rey für ihre zu Beginn der Gewalteskalation in Nahost bekundete dezidierte Haltung.
In den Reden und auf Transparenten gab es teilweise harte Kritik an Israel und den USA. Der Weltpolizist sei der grösste Terrorist, hiess es etwa, oder was Israel betreibe, sei Völkermord. Vorherrschend war an der Demo die libanesische Fahne, aber auch die Friedensfahne in den Regenbogenfarben war gut vertreten.
Die Angriffe der israelischen Armee auf Libanon und im Gaza-Streifen hätten bereits Hunderte von zivilen Opfern gefordert, hiess es auf Transparenten und in Flugbättern. Hunderttausende befänden sich auf der Flucht, und die Schäden an der Infrastruktur seien enorm.

A quoi cela va-t'il servir sans l'exigeance d'un boycott d'Israël ?
Les socialistes sont des hypocrites, car ils savent très bien que toutes les critiques du monde n'empèchera jamais Israël de poursuivre sa politique de la terreur guerrière. Seul un boycott de ce pays peut obliger Israêl à changer sa politique.
Combien faudra-tîl encore de morts pour que les partis politiques de tous les bords arrêtent leur collaboration de fait avec Israël et soutiennent le boycott de cet Etat?
Souvenez-vous l'Apartheid d'Afrique du sud !

What will be of use without a boycott of Israël ?
The socialists are hypocritical, because they know very well that all criticisms of the world never will prevent Israel to follow its policy of warlike dread. Only a boycott of this country can make Israêl change its policy.
How much deaths will be needed so that the political parties of all edges stop their de facto collaboration with Israel and support the boycott of this State?
Remember the Apartheid of Southern Africa!

ça ne sert pas à grand-chose de boycotter un pays. demander au gouvernement d'arrêter la collaboration militaire est une chose, boycotter les olives israëliennes en est une autre. le petit paysan n'est pas responsable de son gouvernement de merde et surtout, ce n'est pas par la vente des olives que l'armée israëlienne se finance. en outre, dis-moi un pays qui ne mériterait pas un boycott! la colombie pour sa sale guerre, la pologne pour son gouvernement d'exrême-droite ou l'espagne pour la répression contre les immigrants. la liste n'est pas du tout exhaustive. le gouvernement israëlien est constitué d'une bande de cons, comme tous les gouvernements du monde, mais le boycott manque d'efficacité contre un état, c'est une arme pour combattre des entreprises! |
